We are having an American supper where people bring a plate of food which is then shared. Please also bring a bottle of something cool to drink because you will get very hot!

Regarding footwear, trainers and heavy rubber soles tend to stick to the floor and Nigel recommends dance shoes or ordinary shoes with leather or plastic soles.

Save the Children - Christmas Fayre

St. Mary's Church - Save the Children - Christmas Fayre 2008 - poster (PDF)

Save the Children are holding their annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday, November the 22nd, 10:00am to 12:00pm, at the Parish Hall, Kempsey.

There will be a festive cake stall, tombola, raffle, Christmas cards and goods for sale, tea, coffee and cakes will be available. Come and listen or join in with the carol singing.

Our project this Christmas is to raise money to buy a Yak for people in Tibet, these cost £160 each.

In addition, if you can save all your 5p's and hand them to Julia Grant, 34, St. Mary's Close by Christmas that would be great, we are already half way there with the collection, so maybe we could provide the people of Tibet with two Yaks.

Kempsey has always been very supportive of Save the Children for over 20 years, please help us once again at our Fayre.

A Safari Walk for St. Mary's

This will be a terrific and enjoyable way of raising funds for St. Mary's Church by walking and eating our way around the parish!

It's a kind of Safari Supper, albeit during the day, throughout the parish. There will be some great food on offer and good company along the way. The entire walk will be around 6 miles although you don't have to do all of it and you can simply join us at the venues if you wish.

The plan is that we begin at The Seaborne Inn, Kempsey (down by the river) at 10:00am and then walk to the Ghurkha Knight on Kempsey Common for refreshments before proceeding on to various other venues for further eats!

All proceeds will go towards the support of St. Mary's Church and this event is being organised by The Friends of Kempsey. So, do make it a date and get your ticket for this great event.

Ticket application available from Peter the Vicar, Libby James and Alan Plowman at St. Mary's Church and also from Peter and Jo at the Seaborne.

I do hope you can join us and hope to see you there.

Vision Day

The day begins with Coffee / Tea at 09:30am at St. Mary's House.

St. Mary’s Church is certainly on a journey and, praise God it is, because we’re moving and going somewhere. All churches must change, move and grow otherwise they stagnate and ultimately die. Praise God that this is not the case at St. Mary’s! BUT, as on any long and at times difficult journey it is important that we look at the map in order to see whether we’re heading in the right direction and to make sure that we all remain together on the journey.

TODAY I WANT AS MANY OF US AS POSSIBLE TO STUDY THE JOURNEY THAT WE’RE TAKING AND TO SHARE THOUGHTS, DREAMS AND VISIONS ABOUT WHERE GOD WANTS TO TAKE US.

This is the purpose of this time together to which you are warmly invited. We need to look together at where God has brought us: to give thanks to God for all that is right and to think about those areas that need to be changed and that we could do better. No church is perfect and this certainly applies to ours but if we are to go forward as a truly united church then we must listen to each other and learn from one another in love.

It is an exciting day and an important day and I do encourage as many of you as possible to join me for what I’m sure will be an exciting and enjoyable time together.

Please bring a packed lunch and we shall aim to finish at 2:30pm.

*** Pentecost - Birthday of the Church ***

This is a very special and important date in the life of the church when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the first followers of Jesus. It was when the Church really took off and came into existence and hence it is known as The Church’s Birthday.

To mark this special day our young people, the members of our active youth fellowship, will be taking a leading part in the Family Service sharing with us what their faith means to them. There will also be a special drama production organised by Avril Kemp who has given us some thought provoking dramas in the past. The service will be followed by another BRING & SHARE LUNCH so that we can truly celebrate the Church’s Birthday together.

It will be a tremendous morning and one of real blessing and encouragement and I do hope that as many of you as possible will come along and give it your support.

Do support this important yearly meeting in the life of our church when Church Wardens and other office holders are voted in for the forthcoming year. Nominations forms will be available for people to sign at the back of church during the month of March.
