Philomusica Christmas Concert It’s great to announce another visit from our friends The Philomusica who will be giving us a concert full of festive song to really get us in the mood for the Christmas season. It will be an exceptional evening of singing and Christmas cheer with seasonal refreshments served in the interval. Open Air "Songs Of Praise" At The Nash with The Band of The Salvation Army Followed By Strawberries & Cream. Wow! From one magnificent house to another within the space of a couple of weeks! This time we’re off to the wonderful setting of The Nash thanks to the generosity once again of William & Brenda for allowing us the use of their home. We shall be singing some of our favourite hymns accompanied by the sound of The Salvation Army Band and will then enjoy yummy strawberries & cream courtesy of the Friends of St. Denys’. Proceeds from the refreshments will go for the support of our beautiful Church. So do come along and give yourselves a real treat singing, eating and chatting with friends in a glorious setting. Please bring a garden chair with you and if the weather is not good then the event will be held indoors at The Nash but I know we’re in for brilliant weather! |

Midsummer Garden Party This is definitely an event not to be missed organised by The Friends of St. Denys’ in aid of St. Denys’ Church. We are most grateful to Peter & Jane and their family for the use of their magnificent house and gardens (including woodland) for this new venture which I know will be fantastic. To find The Coach House, drive past the turning for John & Cara Henderson’s house and just keep going until you can’t go any more and you find the car park. Tickets available from Wardens or John Henderson. It is a ticket only event so that we can calculate the food needed. The refreshments will be an array of wonderful sandwiches and really yummy cakes. Open Air "Songs Of Praise" *** Update 12/06/2011 - Venue confirmed as St. Mary's Church. *** To complete a very busy weekend we are holding an ever popular Songs of Praise Service. We are very grateful for again having this opportunity to hold a service at The Seaborne in the beautiful setting by The River Severn. It will be a lovely afternoon led by St. Mary’s Choir singing some of your favourite hymns followed by scrumptious tea and cakes! I do hope that you will join us for this very enjoyable and relaxing occasion at The Seaborne, including the Bar, in full swing. Please try to bring a garden chair with you and a good voice to sing some marvellous songs. Hope to see you there. If the weather is poor then the event will take place in St. Mary’s Church. St. Mary's Parish Gift Day See the Vicar's Pastoral Letter - May 2011 - for details. This is a special day that has been set aside for anyone who wants to give a financial gift to the life and witness of St. Mary’s Church and specifically the urgent work that is required on The Bell Tower for which we have to raise £40,000 in the next few months. Every penny counts in this mammoth task to keep the bells ringing in Kempsey and every penny will be most gratefully received. I described the situation fully in my last Pastoral Letter (May) and do hope and pray that the people of our community will respond as generously as in the past for which we continue to give thanks. Together we have secured our beautiful ancient Church and The Bell Tower is the last remaining part of the Church to be strengthened. Please help if you can. Peter will be in Church all day to receive your gifts, offers and contributions. THANK YOU. Click on the Poster below to open a larger version (PDF - 93Kb).
The Church will be open all day from 9:30am to 6:00pm and the Vicar will be there to receive any gifts that you may wish to make to the urgent restoration of the Bell Tower. There will also be Gift Aid Envelopes available at Church so that we can gain the maximum benefit from any donation made. There will be refreshments available and, as always, a very warm welcome. Our last Gift Day a couple of years ago was a great success and we continue to be thankful for every penny and all those who gave so generously.

Christian Aid week starts This year Christian Aid Week starts on May 15th. This special week is the biggest single act of Christian witness in the country. There are more people involved than in any other event. If any one could spare an hour to deliver envelopes and collect them during this week please, give Julia Grant a phone call on 820138. We need all the volunteers we can get. We cover nearly all the roads in Kempsey and Kerswell Green so we need lots of people. Last year was a great success in raising over £2,000-00, let us hope and pray we can raise as much this year. As we all know things are very tight with money but anything, however small makes a difference to many families who have nothing. Thank you, Julia. |

Update 06/06//2011 On Saturday 7th May Kempsey was treated to a wonderful concert by the Grafton Consort. St. Mary’s Church resounded to melodies by Wilby, Purcell, Finzi and Parry, interspersed by readings including “The Choristers confession” which had the audience in stitches. A piano duet and some Rutter followed a medley of spirituals. After a pleasant glass of wine during the interval, the programme continued with “For the beauty of the earth” and Goodall’s version of “The Lord is my Shepherd”, recognised by all as the signature tune of “The Vicar of Dibley”. We were then treated to more readings, piano duet and organ pieces followed by some firm favourites like “Sky boat song” and Blue Moon. The programme ended with “The Bare Necessities” and “Good Night Sweetheart” but the Concert did not conclude before a super encore. Every one in the audience had a wonderful time and £230.00 was raised towards the new lighting in church. Those who didn’t support this super concert missed a treat. Thank you to everyone who helped to stage this concert, to the Grafton Consort for making such an enjoyable evening and to those who made up a responsive and enthusiastic audience. |

Do come and see this yearly photographic display and see the wonderful images that have been produced in the competition and in aid of children worldwide. Update 04/05/2011 - see the Results below: The photographic competition was once again a great success with some wonderful photos on display. Peter our vicar was the judge and had difficult choices to make. The first prize for the framed category was awarded to Terry Barnett for Jack Frost, highly commended was awarded to Duncan Smith for The Day Trip. First prize for the mounted category was awarded to James Smith for Chilly Sunset, highly commended was awarded to Helen Rowe for Crystal Clear. First prize for the snap shot category was awarded to Duncan Smith for A Crisp Morning, highly commended was awarded to Stan Watkins for A Winter Home. The amount raised was £236.56. Thank you to all those people who entered their photographs and made such a lovely exhibition for others to enjoy. Click on the posters below to see a larger versions (PDF - 239Kb & 251Kb).

This is a lovely gathering for little ones in which they have a great deal of fun, a little children’s service and shared refreshments afterwards. Coming Together Meeting Coming Together meet on the 2nd Monday of the every month at St. Mary's House, Squires Close from 10:30am to 1:00pm. This is an ecumenical meeting and we enjoy a chat and a coffee at 10:30 going on at 11:00 with a time of worship and bible study with a different speaker each month. Around 12:00 we share in a snack lunch and finish about 1:00. Please feel free to come and join us, we are a very friendly bunch of people.
