The following are pictures and videos from the St. Mary's Summer Fete on Sat 03/07/2010.
This year's St. Mary's Summer Fete was again a superb event that was extremely well attended. As per last year's Fete, it was encouraging to see so many people supporting the local community and helping to keep a village tradition very much alive. The Fete marked Peter's return from his sabbatical break and we were all delighted to see him there with his usual joyful and outgoing style.
Again, initial indications seem to point to a slightly larger attendance than the 2009 St. Mary's Fete, which was itself very well attended.
We were again truly blessed with the weather this year - unlike 3 years ago when it rained us into the Parish Hall. This year though we had no rain, just a gentle breeze and some benevolent clouds to keep us all cool on a generally sunny day - just right. Thus, once again, the Fete could stay in its proper place in the grounds of both St. Mary's church and St. Mary's House. The Fete organisation was again superb and the day ran like clock-work with plenty of stalls and activities to keep everyone entertained.
The Fete was ably opened this year by Cecil Duckworth (OBE), Chairman of Worcester Warriors, who got the afternoon off to a rousing start at 2:00pm. Our thanks to Cecil for his time and enthusiasm. After opening the Fete, Cecil stayed to enjoy the activities and was seen playing a determined game of skittles at one point.
There were 45 stalls and attractions this year (an increase on the 38 from last year) including traditional ones like the Coconut Shy and Tombola and, as usual, the Vicar's Famous Bottle Stall always seemed to have a long queue. The Maypole dancing was again beautifully demonstrated by the children of Kempsey Primary School.
The Donkeys were back again this year and, to the obvious delight of all the children, could be ridden this time. They always had lots of attention and were happy to be fussed and stroked by the crowds around them.
The local Guides and Scouts also helped out on the day, manning stalls and providing refreshments whilst the St. Mary's House team kept the teas, cakes and coffees coming to those in need of refreshment.
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon yet again - our thanks to everyone involved who contributed to the Fete or helped on the day. As usual this is a huge team effort and needs everyone's contributions to make it the success that it is.
